How to make a finding Nemo cake

To make this finding nemo cake, I’m using one of my favourite recipes: my simple vanilla cake. Why complicate the matter with a complicated batter?

I used two10 inch and one 8 inch cake tins, (WARNING) This is a big cake. We go big or we go home!

The Ingredients:

  • 1kg 50g/36oz/4 1/2cups Butter softened (plus extra for greasing)
  • 1kg 50/36oz/6cups Caster sugar
  • 18 Large Eggs
  • 1kg 350g/24oz/12cups Self-raising flour
  • 9 tsps baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla Essence
  • 100mls/3.5oz/ 1/3 cup and 2tsp Buttermilk
  • Fondant for decoration
  • Paint brushes(designated for cake decorating only)
  • blended/ crushed plain biscuit(Rich tea/ Jacobs Marietta etc..)
  • Food colouring paste ( any colours you like)

The Method

*Remember to preheat the oven to 170 degrees C/ 338 degrees F. Also prepare your cakes tins before beginning to mix your batter so everything will be good to go straight into the oven*

1.Beat your sugar and butter in a large bowl until light and fluffy then add your eggs, buttermilk and vanilla essence.

2. Sift your flour and baking powder into that bowl and mix until just incorporated. Becareful not to overmix.

3. Equally divide the batter into different bowls and add a different colour to each bowl, make sure to mix well so the colour is evenly distributed.

4. When your colourful batters are ready, spoon them into your tins like this:

Bake your cakes at 170 degrees Celsius that’s equal to 338 degrees Fahrenheit.

Everyone’s ovens, tins, amount of batter per tin etc.  is different so I can’t say you’re cake will definitely be ready in X amount of minutes.

I suggest after 40/45 mins start monitoring you’re cakes. You can check your cake by using a wooden or metal skewer if it comes out with a bit on uncooked batter on it its not ready if it comes out clean its good to go!!

Give your cakes time to cool completely before leveling and icing them.

That’s pretty much it!

The rest is a series of photos for you to see the decorating process enjoyx
